“Phenix” escorted “Mathilde Maersk”, the largest container ship to visit Southampton, on her maiden call today.
This is a new service being run jointly by Maersk and MSC which will have one of this category of container vessel calling at Southampton once per week. “Mathilde Maersk” is a 399 meter long container vessel with an overall beam of 60 meter. She was build in 2015 and has the capacity to carry 7668 containers. The picture below is taken from our tug “Silex” by Fleet Manager Sveinung Zahl.
