PRESS RELEASE January 25th, 2013
Østensjø Rederi has recently taken delivery of a newbuild tug from Sanmar Yard in Istanbul, Turkey. The tug is a robust vessel with an engine of 6.000 BHP and a bollard pull of 80 tons.
The vessel, named “Lomax”, is equipped with towing winch both forward and aft. She is first and foremost built for harbour duties; however she’s also capable of carrying out towing at sea.
Her interior is based on Østensjø’s long experience from similar vessels, and consists of 4 cabins (2 single and 2 double) with ensuite facilities, offices for Master and Chief Engineer, galley and mess room. Robert Allan Ltd, in Vanouver, Canada, has been responsible for the design of the vessel, as for most other Østensjø tugs.
Lomax delivered and named Saturday 19th January 2013 in Istanbul, and is about to commence its first job. This will be the towage of a hull from Ukraine to Ulstein Yard in Ulsteinvik, Norway. Østensjø Rederi has a 15 year contract with Esso to perform tug-services at the Fawley refinery outside Southampton, UK. Lomax is intended to take up duties here at the end of February. In addition to Lomax, Østensjø has 2 escort-class tugs and 2 mooring vessels stationed at Fawley.
